What makes a song “perfect” is subjective. It all depends on the eye of the beholder. Whether recording in a big studio or a bedroom, the song has to connect to the person listening to it. I like minimalist music but also love really complicated stuff with lots of solos.
Song: Muffin Man
Artist: Frank Zappa
Released: 1975
Does humor belong in music? I think so, and Frank Zappa thinks so too. I love how funny this song is and his solos are the ultimate for me. He’s an extremely talented musician and composer. This song is so good that I don’t mind listening to the intro every time.
Song: My Old Man
Artist: Mac DeMarco
Released: 2017
Mac’s earlier stuff was fun and silly, but when his 2017 album, This Old Dog, came out, things changed. We saw a serious side of him, one in which he sings about his father, who left him at an early age. The song is very simplistic, but you can hear his emotions with every word.
Song: In Between Days
Artist: The Cure
Released: 1985
This is my favorite song from one of my favorite bands in the world. An acoustic jam with a hint of synths. This song never disappoints me and I never get sick of it. I like everything about it, from the melancholy vibe to the music video.
